My Most Lucrative Remote Position

I mentioned in a previous travel post about a job I had working for a UK-based translation company. It was a remote position and afforded me so many opportunities. My boss and owner of the company was spectacular and though I no longer work for him, we remain in contact and are good friends.
I worked as the SEO manager of the company. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, in layman’s terms: I had to make sure the website landed as high up in search results as possible. First page is great, but ideally, you want to be number 1 in the searches. I created, edited, and redesigned the websites and we briefly ran ads. SEO is forever evolving and there are always things to be modified and reinvented on a website.

The great thing about SEO is that it isn’t going anywhere and there are plenty of resources available so that you can learn and become proficient in SEO. It affords you the opportunity to work as a contractor/freelancer for businesses big and small, influencers, professionals (think medical and law practices), brands, and anyone you can think of with an online platform that wants to reach a larger audience.

Certifications of SEO aren’t necessary however they show that you completed a course (or multiple courses) and acts as proof that you have extensive knowledge on how it works and methods to optimize results. The basic knowledge I had of SEO was outdated; I noticed how much paid advertisement has taken over and I realized I needed to update my methods. I ended up earning 2 certifications in my quest for that knowledge and while there isn’t an official certification, it served me well and allowed me to gain other job opportunities managing SEO.

I guess this post can count as informative ranting and possibly advice if it’s something that interests you.
