Working from Home

I have had the dream to be a stay at home wife and mom for the majority of my life. When I was younger it was the dream that I didn’t have to work and could be lazy at home all day. Now as a functional (kind of) adult I know that as a stay at home wife I still have responsibilities.
I want to preface with: everyone should be able to decide what they want for themselves. For me this means being a homemaker. I’m not saying that you should do what I do or think how I think.

To me, those responsibilities include cleaning, cooking, and shopping for household necessities. It sounds wonderful, but then I considered the financial burden it would be to my future husband to go from taking care of himself, to taking care of the both of us, and then eventually our children. I’m very independent and while I have this fantasy of being a rich housewife watching soaps all day, I also want to contribute to the household. I thought to myself, “How can I have the best of both worlds?”

Before I met Muffin, I already had this mindset in place. I worked freelance. I did tech repair, web design, SEO management, English tutor, and English as a Second Language teacher. I was trying to find ways to be self-sufficient from the comfort of my home. There are tons of blogs advertising how to work from home and be a digital nomad and honestly, it gave me a false idea of what it would be like. Glamourous lifestyle, always on the move with steady income.

Many times it’s not glamourous. And there is a level of uncertainty with the next job and next paycheck. There’s a feeling of being unsettled, uneasy, and unsupported. I had to question many times if this was truly what being self-sufficient consists of and if it was worth it to me.

With COVID-19 there are many remote positions that have opened up and become available. I’m going to talk about the years of searching for work-at-home jobs and basically my experience chasing this dream. If it wasn’t for all of those experiences including COVID-19, I probably wouldn’t have the remote position I have now.

Stay tuned!
